Reading: Article: Hanson, R. and Spratt, E. "Reactive Attachment Disorder: What We Know About the Disorder and Implications for Treatment."
Written Assignment: After each session, please write a 1 page reacton: "What struck you about this reading." Bring your paper to share at the beginning of class.
A Few Key Points--
• Look at the Wikipedia article. Excellent, similar to Hanson.
• Look at Nancy Thomas' Attachment.org. She has a thriving business, and if you look at the Amazon information about her book, When Love Is Not Enough, The parent reviews are almost all favorable, and the one really negative one is the professional one. Her "methods" appear to be oriented towards manipulative kids, and seem quite appropriate as best I can see.
• We'll talk about the non-conventional ones like holding therapy, rage reduction, rebirthing and the Evergreen Model. Look at http://www.attachmentexperts.com/ then try http://www.healthwatcher.net/Quackerywatch/Attachment-therapy/.

• Let's start with Ed Tronick's chapter that outlines the concepts of the Boston Change Process Study Group. I will distribute this at this session.
• Discuss a patient who illustrates the strength and limitations of Attachment.
