Disgnosing Schizophrenia

Session 1: Schizophrenia and Related Conditions

Positive Symptom Schizophrenia:

1. Delusions

2. Hallucinations

3. Disorganized speech- derailment or incoherence

4. Grossly disorganized or Catatonic behavior

* Agitation and emotional dyscontrol.

Negative Symptom Schizophrenia:

5. Flat affect, anhedonia, social withdrawal, often without positive symptoms

Excluding Other Conditions:

Brief Reactive Psychosis: (Schizophreniform Disorder) Six months / One month

Mood Disorder with Psychosis: Bipolar, Depression with psychosis

Substance Abuse or Medication: Multiple substances, primarily stimulants and hallucinogens

Medical Conditions: Many
